DOTP

Dioctyl terephthalate (DOTP) is an ester of 2-ethylhexanol and terephthalic acid with the formula C6H4(CO2C8H17)2 which is used as a commercial phthalate-free polyvinyl chloride plasticiser . DOTP has excellent plasticizing efficiency, excellent processing performance, superior thermal aging stability , high dielectric properties , high cold resistance and reduced volatility.

WHY DOTP?



When we compare the physical and chemical properties of DOTP and DOP , nearly we can't distinguish their characteristics.But their differences are in their structure. DOTP is a terephthalate plasticizer , while DOP , DIDP and DINP are all orthophthalates.

DOTP, DOP, DINP as plasticizers get into between PVC polymer chains.As a result of this crystal properties of polymer decreases , becomes softer and shaped flexible named plastic. The reaction between the phthalates and terephthalates with heavy alcohols produce plasticizers. When PVC mixed this type of chemicals, it becomes plastic characteristic. The molecular weight of plasticizers are lower than PVC so they migrate to air or environment.This shortened plastics life. Migration of plasticizers inverse proportion to molecular weight.The other factor that effect migration is the geometric harmony of the plasticizer and PVC chain.

 

DOTP
DOTP and DOP have same molecular weight.Despite of this, inclination of physical structure to be linear DOTP is compatible to PVC polymer chain.Because of this speciality, the migration of DOTP is less than DOP. Plasticizer , which has higher migration, separate from the structure of plastic on process.Consequently to become required strenght for volatile rate necessity more usage of plasticizer.When DOTP used loss minimized, existence product more long-lived and strong.
When we compare DOTP with other plasticizers ,it has best physical and permanent characteristics inside of plasticizer. In all PVC applications that used like artificial leather, shoes, cable, pipe, canvas.
